FAQ
Does linen fabric shrink when washed?
Linen is machine washable, and will become more absorbent and softer each time. It is recommended to use only gentle cycles with temperatures less than 104° F or 40° C. Additionally, it is suggested to air-dry linen. To be safe you can always dry clean or hand wash linen fabrics. Check out our blog for the ultimate guide to fabric care 101.
How to soften linen fabric?
Linen naturally becomes softer after each wash. To speed up this process, replace your laundry detergent with baking soda in the washing machine. Additionally you can replace your fabric softener with a 1:1 solution of white vinegar and water.
How to wash linen fabric before sewing?
Linen, like most natural fabrics will experience a shrinkage of 3-10% when washed. To lessen the effects of shrinkage when washing a completed linen project, it is recommended to prewash linen before sewing. After prewashing linen, continue to wash the finished project in the same manner that it was prewashed to avoid continued shrinkage.
