Description

Terry Cloth fabric is a soft and absorbent fabric that features a towel like raised texture across the entire fabric on both sides. Woven in a terry style weave with 100% natural and hypoallergenic cotton fibers, Terry Cloth fabric is made by weaving a single weft thread through two separate warp threads. This weave structure creates soft loops, also known as piles, that protrude from the base of the Terry Cloth fabric and increase absorbency. Terry Cloth fabric measures 45 inches in width, is 1.35 millimeters thick, has a 310 GSM, and weighs approximately 11 ounces per linear yard. A medium to heavy weight, double-sided thick fabric, Terry Cloth has a full, heavy drape when it is hung.

Use Terry Cloth fabric to sew comfortable apparel and decors. Make insulating and hypoallergenic garments with Terry Cloth fabric like bathrobes, swaddles, and apparel for infants. Furthermore, make your own, custom embroidered bath towels, washcloths, and blankets with Terry Cloth fabric. Shop Terry Cloth fabric online by the yard, or in bulk by the roll, at wholesale prices.

    Care Instructions

    FAQ

    What is terry cloth fabric?

Terry cloth is a cotton fabric woven with two yarns in the warp (up and down), and one yarn in the weft (side to side). This weaving style creates loops of very absorbent thread. Due to it’s absorbent, soft, and hypoallergenic qualities, terrycloth is commonly found in towels, bathrobes, and baby fabrics.

How to hem terry cloth fabric?

Since terry cloth is a thick knitted fabric, it may be best to use a serger or overlock machine to hem the edges. These machines trim and sew the fabric to create reinforced edges to allow more stretch and flexibility. If you do not have one of these machines, you can still hem terry cloth by hand using a #80 or higher needle and sewing a straight stitch along the raw edge of the fabric. After completing this, double back with a zig zag stitch.

How to sew with terry cloth fabric?

Terry cloth is a thick knitted fabric. It is best to use a #80 or larger needle, with a 3mm straight stitch. Pre-wash your fabric to avoid any shrinkage. Check out our blog post to learn sewing tips for beginners.

How to wash terry cloth fabric?

Terry cloth is usually made from cotton, and is machine washable. Wash with detergent, on warm or cold settings. Heat can cause damage or shrinkage to terrycloth fabric, it is recommended to tumble dry with no heat or allow the fabric to hang dry.
