Description
The Ottertex® polyester ripstop fabric is a durable and synthetic fabric that is perfect for all types of indoor and outdoor use. This fabric is 200 denier, 100% polyester with a moderate stiff finish and 58/60” inches wide. It is a light-weight fabric with special fibers used within the weave at specific points, allowing for the fabric to have superior quality and hold against all types of damage and tear. This fabric is also coated with a nanotechnology film called DWR (durable water repellent). DWR allows for the ripstop to be water-repellent, withstanding above-average water exposures. The polyester ripstop is also very malleable, allowing for a great deal of adaptability. And because it is a polyester, it naturally dries quicker oppose to the nylon DWR, as polyester fibers do not absorb water. Alongside this, it is has a more distinct feel and hold, being heavier and having more structure to it.
The polyester ripstop fabric can be used for kites, flags, banners, camping equipment, tents, hammocks, pants, sleeping bags, windbreakers and more. Ripstop fabric is extremely versatile in its applications and can be used for mass production or simple everyday projects.

Great for large heavy duty tarp
We camp on the coast of North Florida in the winter when it's cool and non-buggy. Because of the high winds and storms coming in from the ocean, my lightweight tarps just didn't last. So I thought I would try this Ottertex 6.6 oz material and made a 20' x 22' tarp. We just finished our 6 weeklong camping trips (one week each) and have been pleased with its performance. Last March we had a full week of heavy storms with high winds and the tarp never failed. Putting heavy truckers' bungee straps at each tie-out certainly helped take the stresses off the material. I am very pleased with the material and the price! BTW I sewed it with a standard sewing machine.

Experimenting!
Using Ripstop for the first time to make a boat center console cover and a beach wind block. Need a good warm beach weekend to test the durability I'm looking to get from this weight of fabric.

Have not been able to use it for it's intended purpose but my kids love to use it as a fort inside our house.

Hearty thin cloth
Sewed patio furniture covers...seems to be working well. Great price and quality fabric.

I don't love this fabric
I'm sure the fabric is good for a purpose, but not for mine. I was looking for an alternative to the 8.7 oz and this does not compare at all. It is more like gauze, very thin, see through, and elastic feeling. It did not work well for my purpose.
