What is marine vinyl fabric?
Ottertex®️ Marine Vinyl is type of vinyl fabric manufactured to be extremely durable, water resistant, UV resistant, and mold resistant. Marine vinyl fabric is commonly found on boats, awnings, and outdoor furniture.
What needle and thread for sewing marine grade vinyl upholstery fabric?
Ottertex®️ Marine Vinyl can be sewn by hand or machine. A #100 or larger denim / leather needle is recommended with a bonded, high strength, UV resistant, waterproof, thread. However, standard sewing machines may be able to work as well. We recommend trying to sew on a small sample to see if it is to your liking. Keep in mind that marine vinyl may not be forgiving, and if mistakes are made, stitch or pin holes could be visible.
How to sew marine vinyl fabric?
Ottertex®️ Marine Vinyl Fabric can be sewn by hand or with any sewing machine; a heavy duty machine is suggested but not required. Some additional sewing accessories are also recommended but not required, such as: clips, double stick tape, size 100+ denim / leather needles, bonded thread, an awl, and a thimble. Lastly a walking foot can be attached to your sewing machine, or you can increase the stitch length if you need to sew through multiple layers. Keep in mind that marine vinyl is not forgiving, and if mistakes are made, stitch or pin holes will be visible.
How to cut marine vinyl fabric?
Ottertex®️ Marine Vinyl is easy to cut. High quality shears, or a utility knife are recommended; however, regular sharpened scissors can also be used.
